“I Saw Christ in the Hospital Rooms”
Story
Chrishanthy Cross, a Catholic nurse from Mannar, Sri Lanka worked long hours during the pandemic caring for elderly patients who were isolated and afraid.
Many patients had no family members beside them during their final moments. Chrishanthy often stayed after her shift to pray quietly with them, hold their hands, and offer comfort.
She says:
“The Cross taught me that love means staying beside people in suffering, even when it is difficult.”
For Chrishanthy, nursing became more than a profession — it became a mission of compassion inspired by Christ.
Reflection
Like Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry the Cross, many healthcare workers carry the suffering of others every day with love and sacrifice.
